Department of Criminal Law, Criminology and Criminalistics

The Department of Criminal Law, Criminology and Criminalistics (hereinafter also referred to as "the Department") guarantees the teaching of several compulsory, compulsory elective and elective courses within the Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degree studies (in Slovak and English). The compulsory subjects within the Bachelor's degree include Substantive Criminal Law 1 and Fundamentals of Criminology and Criminology and Substantive Criminal Law 2 (area of substantive criminal law) and Criminal Procedure 1 and Criminal Procedure 2 (area of procedural criminal law). Within the Master's degree, we can mention the applied subjects that the Department co-guarantees - Evidence and Applied Criminal Law, Financial Law and Economic Law.

In addition, the Department also provides teaching for a number of elective courses, traditionally Criminalistics and Criminology, and more recently the provision of courses such as the Prison Clinic, Radicalisation and Extremism, and Legal Writing and Thinking in Cases. The Department co-teaches compulsory courses in the joint Bachelor's degree programme in Management and Law, and in the context of the provision of learning opportunities in English, students can enrol in elective courses in International Criminal and Humanitarian Law and European Criminal Law.

Our Department is one of the largest departments at the Faculty of Law of Comenius University in terms of staff, also in view of the fact that criminal law is an integral part of the interdisciplinary state examination within the Master's programme. Knowledge of criminal law is therefore required not only for the actual graduation from the Faculty of Law, but also on a professional level, when it is required as part of other qualifying examinations for entry into the legal profession. The department has a very good publication record. The members of the Department are involved or have been involved in the past in a number of scientific projects at national and supranational level.

Cooperation with experts from the application practice is also a good result of our department. Representatives from the judiciary, prosecution, advocacy and the Police Department lecture, participate in scientific events, participate in scientific and publishing activities and through their work at the Department enable students to learn about the science of criminal law not only from the perspective of theory, but also from the perspective of practice.
