Civil law

The field of Habilitation and Inauguration "Civil Law" mainly includes the following segments in the area of civil law (the science of civil law) and in the area of education in the study of law, in particular:

- substantive civil law

- civil procedural law

- family law

- intellectual property law

Substantive civil law regulates the basic institutes applicable in several legal sectors, rights in rem, inheritance, liability for damages and for unjustified enrichment, and relations of obligations. It is also the basis for the study of other branches of private law and is a prerequisite for the application of civil procedural law.

Family law regulates all important issues related to the family, its proper functioning and ensuring favourable conditions for the development of a healthy individual, not excluding surrogate family law relationships.

Civil procedural law regulating the course of proceedings in court, divided into basic and enforcement proceedings, is a frequent and in some cases indispensable application tool of substantive civil law and family law, which is why it is an integral part of the discipline of civil law and its knowledge is complementary to the basic framework of civil law knowledge.

Intellectual property law primarily includes copyright and copyright-related rights and industrial property rights.

Due to the membership of the Slovak Republic in the European Union, it is necessary to incorporate into the basic theoretical knowledge also elements of European law, which currently significantly influences national civil law and affects both the substantive area (e.g. consumer protection, best interests of the child, intellectual property law) and the procedural area (e.g. the guarantee of the right to a fair trial, class actions). There are also elements of international law (Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, Convention on the Rights of the Child).
