The Faculty of Law of Comenius University in Bratislava offers the Ph.D. degree programme in both its daily as well as external form. The courses take place in the building of the Faculty of Law located at Šafárikovo námestie 6 in Bratislava. The study is provided for by the Department of Science and Ph.D. Studies along with other respective departments. Students participate in lectures and consultations. Standard length of Ph.D. degree programme in its daily form is 3 years and 4 years in its external form.
Ph.D. students at respective departments within the Faculty have to take and complete courses within three sections – compulsory, selective compulsory and elective courses. Moreover, they are required to participate in other study and pedagogical and educational activities as well as publication activities concerning science and research.
Organisation and management of Ph.D. degree programme is regulated by the following regulations: Study Rules of the Faculty of Law of Comenius University in Bratislava as amended by Amendment No. 1, Amendment No. 2, Amendment No. 3, Amendment No. 4, Amendment No. 5, Amendment No. 6 and Amendment No. 7 (Consolidated Version) and Internal Regulation No. 8/2013 adopted by the Academic Senate of CU in Bratislava – Study Rules of Comenius University in Bratislava).
Ph.D. graduate has a good command of scientific methods of research into legal sciences with a particular focus on the issues of the respective branch of study. The graduate is capable of analysing the basic as well as special issues and matters within the respective study programme from the methodological and scientific perspective.
Ph.D. Graduate's Theoretical Knowledge
Ph.D. graduate is able to conduct research on his/her own and come up with his/her own solutions in the area of the given branch of study and provide their theoretical as well as scientific justification taking into account the needs of their social and political needs of their practical application.
Ph.D. graduate is able to provide a theoretical summary of the findings of his/her research into more legal areas and is able to abstract the expected practical development from them.
Ph.D. Graduate's Additional Knowledge, Capabilities and Skills
Ph.D. graduate's scientific activities (theoretical and practical ones) are closely interconnected with study of other areas of social sciences, namely with political sciences, sociology, psychology, philosophy and economics. In order to achieve the requested objectives and tasks, the graduate is capable of exploiting the knowledge and findings from the given areas.
