Faculty of Law and the Supreme Administrative Court of the Slovak Republic strengthen their cooperation
30 September 2026 – Supreme Administrative Court of the Slovak Republic
The Faculty of Law at Comenius University Bratislava continues its cooperation with the Supreme Administrative Court of the Slovak Republic. The Court's President, Monika Valašiková, met with the deans of the faculties of law at Comenius University Bratislava and Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice to discuss further cooperation, the implementation of their memoranda, and support for the professional training of students and PhD students.
On 30 September and 2 October 2026, Monika Valašiková, President of the Supreme Administrative Court of the Slovak Republic, welcomed the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Comenius University Bratislava, prof. JUDr. Eduard Burda, PhD., and the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, prof. JUDr. Miroslav Štrkolec, PhD., to the Court for the first time since taking office.
The President expressed her interest in continuing constructive cooperation with both faculties and implementing the memoranda of cooperation concluded with them in previous years. A particularly important area is support for talented young law students and PhD students. Under the memoranda, they have the opportunity to undertake professional internships free of charge at the Supreme Administrative Court.
Cooperation with the Supreme Administrative Court is especially important to the Faculty of Law at Comenius University, given the Department of Administrative Law and Environmental Law's longstanding academic work.
“The Faculty of Law at Comenius University Bratislava's flagship is its exceptionally strong Department of Administrative Law and Environmental Law, which has long advocated the idea of a separate system of administrative justice. Cooperation with the Supreme Administrative Court of the Slovak Republic is therefore crucial to us, both for the practical training of future lawyers and for the coordinated development of legal scholarship and case law,” said the Dean, prof. JUDr. Eduard Burda, PhD.
The cooperation also creates opportunities to connect academia with legal practice, exchange specialist knowledge and experience, and deepen students' understanding of administrative law and administrative justice.
The importance of professional internships and the exchange of knowledge was also emphasised by the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, prof. JUDr. Miroslav Štrkolec, PhD.:
“Cooperation between the Faculty and the Supreme Administrative Court is effective in facilitating the exchange of knowledge within our respective areas of activity, while also creating favourable conditions for our students to undertake internships. These have a positive impact and considerable potential to deepen students' knowledge of administrative law, constitutional law, tax law and administrative justice,” said Professor Miroslav Štrkolec.
Continuing cooperation between the Supreme Administrative Court and the faculties of law thus helps connect education, legal scholarship and practice, creating opportunities for the professional growth of future lawyers and the further development of administrative law and administrative justice.
