The NATO Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE), based in Tallinn, Estonia, organises an annual exercise that offers cyber security experts representing Member States the opportunity to test their skills in dealing with complex scenarios. The national teams consist of a technical and a non-technical part, which is backed up by media and legal expert groups.

The exercise was attended by assistant professor Mgr. Petra Dražová, PhD. and a full-time student of bachelor's programme Stela Košt'álová from the Institute of Information Technology Law and Intellectual Property Law as part of the National Team of the Slovak Republic. The exercise was also attended by a graduate of the faculty, lieutenant colonel Mgr. Zuzana Halásová, PhD., the Head of the Cyber Security Department at the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic.

„Participating in the Locked Shields Exercise has been a perfect experience for me, where we had to quickly assess legally a variety of emergent security situations in cyberspace and beyond. The speed of submitting our legal analyses was decisive, so we were forced to produce high quality work under time pressure, as our outputs were subsequently scored. The focus was interdisciplinary across cybersecurity incidents, through the protection of different types of data to branches of international law such as humanitarian law, maritime law or space law," said Stela Košt'álová.

The national team achieved 8th place out of a total of 24 participants.
