Members of the Institute of Information Technology and Intellectual Property Law took part in the ELU-S Conference 2026, one of the largest conferences dedicated to European law, hosted by Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon.

From 1 to 3 September, Soňa Juhásová, Stela Košťálová, Matúš Mesarčík, Lucia Rybanová and Miroslav Sorkovský presented their papers.

Organised by the European Law Unbound Society, the conference is a major European academic event addressing current issues in European law. This year’s edition explored the theme Words or Deeds? The European Moment.

The presentations critically examined the proposed amendments to the General Data Protection Regulation in the context of the forthcoming Digital Omnibus and their potential implications for the protection of human rights. They also addressed the protection of fundamental rights in relation to social media and the current regulatory framework under the Digital Services Act, the protection of children online, particularly on online gaming platforms, and the risks of digital loneliness in the context of artificial intelligence regulation.

The participation of the Institute’s representatives marks another step towards strengthening its international academic profile. It also underscores the growing importance of research conducted at the Faculty of Law of Comenius University Bratislava in the fields of information technology law, digital regulation and the protection of fundamental rights online.
