The legal profession is experiencing a shift transformation with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), reshaping the traditional foundations of extensive research, thorough documentation, and complex decision-making. Intelligent technologies such as natural language processing (NLP), machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and data analytics are empowering legal professionals with advanced tools for legal tasks like legal research, contract analysis, and case management. These innovations have not only heightened efficiency and accuracy but have also liberated lawyers to focus more on strategic and value-added responsibilities. In the realm of contract analysis, AI plays a pivotal role in extracting key terms and provisions, enabling lawyers to assess risks and draft contracts with greater precision. However, amidst the remarkable progress, the imperative of maintaining the human-in-loop in complex legal decision-making and ensuring the ethical use of AI within the legal profession remains a central topic of active discussion. While AI brings many benefits to our society, it also comes with potential risks such as data disclosure, content control, bias mitigation, and explainability. Proper handling of data is crucial to align with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), emphasising the ongoing commitment to stay up-to-date of the latest best practices in the legal profession and information and communication technology (ICT).

2. Automation of Legal Text Analysis Based on Machine Learning
Short title of the project / Acronym: ALTAML
Applicant: Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice
Partners: Comenius University Btarislava, Faculty of Law
Wolters Kluwer SR, Ltd.
Key leading researcher for Comenius University Bratislava:
doc. JUDr. Jozef Andraško, PhD.

The aim of the project is to utilize machine learning methods for more efficient processing and analysis of legal texts. This technology has the potential to better identify relationships between legal texts, detect deviations from established practices, and streamline access to legal information.
The main benefits of the project include the automation of the legal text processing, which will speed up and streamline the work with legal documents. The application of machine learning and data analysis methods will enable a deeper understanding and more efficient use of legal information. These methods will facilitate navigation through complex legal texts as well as allow the identification of relationships between them, which is crucial for understanding broader contexts within the legal system. Detection of deviations from established decision-making practices is another essential benefit, which will contribute to increased transparency and predictability of decision-making processes. Last but not least, the comparison of groups of legal texts (clustering) will facilitate the navigation of extensive legal information, which is priceless for both professionals and ordinary users seeking relevant legal information.
