Project leader: doc. JUDr. Katarína Kalesná, CSc.

Start of project: September 2015

End of project: December 2019

The subject of applied research is the investigation of the effectiveness of competition law in the context of its application in practice. Act No. 136/2001 Coll. on the Protection of Competition was adopted before the accession of the Slovak Republic to the European Union in order to reflect and prepare the Slovak competition legislation for the upcoming harmonisation processes. Slovak competition legislation is influenced and closely determined by the European framework and is subject to constant pressure in the interest of uniform application and implementation of competition institutes.

In this context, it is necessary to take into account the specificities of the Slovak legal order, and therefore the legislator's aim should not be a literal transposition of the provisions and institutes of European law, but an analysis of the issue from a broader point of view. The aim of the research team is, after a thorough analysis of the current legislation, its application by competition authorities and comparison with the legislation of other EU Member States in particular, to draft an amendment to the Act and other related legislation, together with an explanatory memorandum, in order to ensure a uniform and coherent application of competition rules against the background of a united Europe.

PhD. Workshop 2016 (4.-6.11.2021)

The Faculty of Law  was approached for the first time this year with the opportunity to participate in the annual event, the PhD. Workshop, which is organized by Charles University in Prague and the Czech Society for European and Comparative Law.

The PhD. Workshop has the ambition to offer interested young scholars a forum in which they can discuss their dissertation projects and discuss problems or obstacles in formulating and writing their dissertations. The PhD. Workshop provides an opportunity for a few selected PhD students studying at Czech and Slovak universities in the field of law, or in another related field, to present the outputs of their scientific research to date at a professional event in sufficient depth.

The workshop was financially supported by Comenius University in Bratislava and is co-financed by the Erasmus + Programme - Jean Monnet project, 565572-EPP-1-2015-1-CZ-EPPJMO-SUPPA "Taking EU Law Seriously" and the project APVV-0158-12 "The Effectiveness of Competition Protection Legislation in the Context of its Application and Practice".
