Faculty of LawComenius University Bratislava

Support Provided to Students with Special Needs

Faculty:

The Faculty of Law is located in Šafárik Square in a historical building. Some of its departments are also located in the new building - entrance from Muzijná Street.

Accessibility:

The Faculty is situated next to the public traffic stop called Šafárik Square which may be reached from the Main Railway Station, Bus Station or student's dormitory of Ľ.Štúr or Družba (www.ba.imhd.sk). There is also a carpark directly in front of the building of the Faculty of Arts located in Gondová Street. There are also reserved parking spots in Muzijná Street.

Entrance:

The Faculty of Law is located in a historical building where there are often graduation and matriculation ceremonies held with respect to the entire Comenius University. Moreover, the Rector's Office is located in this building, too. The entrance may therefore be problematic for the physically disabled people. In order to enter the building, one must firstly climb 8 steps to reach a heavy door which opens outwards and its handle is located in quite a high position. However, this door is opened most of the time. Then, we proceed to the automatic sliding door which leads us to the entrance hall. The entrance hall leads us through an open door to the ground floor of the building where there is a reception on the left side. Facilities for the disabled people are located in the new building - entrance from Muzijná Street. The new building may be entered through two automatic sliding doors. The reception is located on the left side. The lift is located on the right side and there is a braille system of printing inside it. The lift can take you to either the 3rd or 4th floor where you may use a special barrier-free transition to the old building. This barrier-free transition is always located at the end of the corridor on the left side of the lift. Once you use this transition you find yourself in the old building but always on a lower floor compared to the new building (from the third floor in the new building to the second floor in the old building, from the fourth floor in the new building to the third floor in the old building). There is a lift in the old building of the Faculty of Law, CU.

Building:

The historic building of the Faculty of Law is not adapted to special needs of the physically disabled people. There are heavy doors throughout the entire building which are more difficult to open and in most cases they are opened by pulling. There are two lifts which are accessible without any facilities for the disabled people. The first lift is located on the left side of the reception. The second lift is located at the end of the corridor, on its left side. There are seven steps which have to be climbed and a swinging door which has to be passed in order to reach the lift. The floors are marked with labels having braille system of printing on them. There is a loudspeaker inside the lift. There is a barrier-free rest room on the right side of the ground floor; the key to this rest room can be obtained at the reception. This rest room is currently used as a storeroom for maids. There is an auditorium and a filing office located on the first floor. The Study Department is situated on the second floor on the left side of the lift. The third floor in the new building may be accessed by using the transition passage located on the right side of the lift. The Dean's Office is located on the third floor. Even this floor may be used for a barrier-free access to the fourth floor in the new building. Library of the Faculty of Law is located on the fifth floor in the new building which may be entered from Muzijná Street. The Support Centre for Visually Impaired Students may be found at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of Comenius University in Bratislava. This Centre is run by
