About the project
Legal, Technical, and Forensic Aspects of Cybersecurity With an Element of Artificial Intelligence, APVV-25-0162
Principal Investigator: prof. JUDr. Jozef Čentéš, DrSc.
Research Department: 050509 - Criminal Law
Implementation: 2026 - 2030
The development of artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the nature of cybersecurity risks and incidents. Artificial intelligence ("AI") systems are becoming an integral part of critical processes in public administration, the economy, and critical infrastructure, giving rise to new types of cybersecurity incidents. These incidents are characterized by a high degree of automation, adaptability, and the ability to generate specific digital artifacts that differ fundamentally from traditional electronic evidence. However, current legal, methodological, and forensic frameworks only partially reflect these specifics. The project aims to create an application-ready legal-technical and criminal-forensic framework for the identification, analysis, and resolution of cybersecurity incidents involving artificial intelligence. The project focuses on the systematic identification and classification of incidents or failures of AI systems, including cybersecurity incidents involving AI (“AI incident"), as well as on the design of a methodology for working with digital traces created or influenced by the activity of AI systems ("AI traces"). The project is designed as applied interdisciplinary research that links criminal law, cybersecurity, and digital forensics. It uses doctrinal and comparative legal analysis, criminalistic and forensic methods, and empirical research carried out in cooperation with the Competence and Certification Center for Cybersecurity and CSIRT units. The expected outputs of the project will be methodological, analytical, and recommendation documents directly applicable in practice, particularly in the methodological support of public administration entities, the resolution of cyber incidents, and cooperation with law enforcement authorities. The project will contribute to increasing the cyber resilience of the state, strengthening legal certainty, and better integrating legal and technical tools in addressing threats related to AI.
