Online Summer School in External Action of the European Union
About the project
Our project is aimed to introduce the academic discipline “External action of the European Union” in the curriculum of the Comenius University Bratislava. Within this discipline students of the faculty of law, students of the programme “Law and Economics” and postgraduate students will learn international legal personality of the EU, external competences of the EU, institutional framework for EU external action, Common foreign and security policy, Common security and defence policy, Common commercial policy, judicial cooperation in civil matters with third countries, judicial cooperation in criminal matters with third countries, international cooperation of the EU in the environmental sphere, international agreement as an essential instrument for the EU external action, diplomatic relations with third countries and international organizations, sanctions as instrument of the EU external action, EU and international criminal justice, EU climate diplomacy. These topics are all of significant interest for policy makers, lawyers, employees of various ministries, employees of European institutions, prosecutors, employees of public administration and non-governmental sector, who will be able to study the course, because we will post the recorded lectures in Slovak and English on the project website. The course is designed for everyone who is interested in foreign policy and international relations — from students to experts. The ambition is to provide not only theoretical basis, but above all the practical dimension of the EU's external action. An international conference dedicated to the external action of the EU will also be held every year, a textbook “External action of the European Union” and 9 articles will be published, which will also be posted on the project sub-subsite of the faculty. In addition, a summer school will be held in the second and third year of the project for policy makers at local, regional, and national level and practicing lawyers.
