About the project

KRI-EDU: Innovations in Criminalistics Education

Principal investigator: doc. JUDr. Radovan Blažek, PhD.

Implementation: 2026 - 2027

The project ‘KRI-EDU: Innovations in Criminalistics Education’ is aimed at modernizing and innovating the teaching of the subject Criminalistics at the Faculty of Law, Comenius University in Bratislava by introducing new didactic methods, interactive tools, and practice-oriented teaching formats. The objective of the project is to address the current gaps in the educational system, which insufficiently reflects the need to connect theory with practical application in order to meet the modern requirements for professional training of law students preparing for careers in criminal investigation. Within the framework of the project, a proposal for a modernized curriculum will be developed, pilot testing of innovative teaching procedures will be conducted, and educational tools will be procured, including the forensic software FACES 4.0, equipment for the simulation and practical training of crime scene investigation, and fingerprinting. The project will also include the publication of the textbook “Crime Scene Investigation” and the organization of a summer school in criminalistics, with the ambition of turning it into an annual event. The project will contribute to improving the practical skills of law students, strengthening their professional orientation toward the Police Force of the Slovak republic – which has long been affected by personnel shortages – and enhancing the attractiveness of the subject Criminalistics as an integral part of legal education. The graduate profile of the course will meet the standards expected by modern law enforcement institutions abroad, and the knowledge acquired through innovative methods will also be applicable to other legal professions involved in criminal procedure, particularly prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges.
