About the project

The principles of the rule of law in criminal law

Principal investigator: doc. JUDr. Ondrej Laciak, PhD.

Implementation: 2024 - 2026

In 2022, the European Court of Human Rights received 45 500 applications, an overall increase of 3% compared to 2021 (44 250). The Slovak Republic had a total of 210 submissions in 2022. This number of submissions can be considered relatively high, especially when countries with larger populations do not reach this figure. For example, the Czech Republic had only 142 filings and the Federal Republic of Germany only 198 filings. Of course, the number of submissions does not automatically imply the success rate of submissions, but it does tell us something about the feelings of society. The aim of the project is to analyse the state of the rule of law, particularly in the area of criminal law, which most invasively affects fundamental human rights and freedoms.
