About the project
Opus Tripartitum - Translation, Analysis and Commentary
Principal investigator: prof. Mgr. Miroslav Lysý, PhD.
Implementation: 2025 - 2028
The project focuses on the translation, textual analysis and legal-historical commentary of the work of the late medieval and early modern Hungarian lawyer Štefan from Vrbovce (Werbőczy, Verbőci) entitled Opus Tripartitum iuris consuetudinarii inclyti regni Hungariae partiumque adnexarum, which was written in 1514 and his first edition was published in 1517.The project will have two basic stages of solution:1) The first stage will be the translation part, during which it will be necessary to compare the previous editions of the Opus Tripartitum (and its previous translations into modern languages) and to further thoroughly resolve the basic terminological questions regarding the use of terms from the field of Slovak medieval studies and legal history.2) The second stage will be the creation of a commentary on Opus Tripartitm. Its essence will be the balance of previous research and the search for new starting points in the interpretation of legal institutions in this part of Hungarian private law.
